Freedom's Sisters - An exhibition running from April 25 - July 5, 2009 at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History

Freedom’s Sisters, the latest exhibit to arrive at The Charles H. Wright Museum, brings to life 20 African American women, from key 19th-century historical figures to contemporary leaders, who have fought tirelessly for the cause of equality and liberty for people of color.

After a recent visit to the moving exhibit, the stories of these courageous women seemed to stay with me. I began to think about the heart wrenching experiences and sacrifices these women endured for the freedoms of others. Of particular note I began to think “what if they were MY sisters?” If they were MY sisters, would I see their stories simply as history lessons to be forgotten or would I share their stories and preserve their legacy as women of courage whose work for liberty and equality continues to push aside limitations that constricts Americans. I choose the latter. I hope to inspire you to do the same.

The Freedom’s Sisters exhibit will be on display at the Charles H. Wright Museum until July 5th, 2009 and is on a national tour sponsored by the Ford Motor Company fund.
